After a tragic assault that left Andrew Merryweather; a quadriplegic; paralysed from the chest down, he spent six months in hospital followed by extensive rehabilitation therapy. Once the dust settled Andrew was left with debilitating medical and house adaption bills.
Due to mediocre financial advice from a then loosely regulated industry, he realised how poorly financially prepared he was to handle the ‘curve balls of life’.
Following this, Andrew entered the financial services industry and is currently an advisor and marketing manager at Autus Wealth Care Specialists. He has a passion to equip people with financial literacy especially in the field of risk management.
Andrew has been keynote speaker for The Cape Chamber of Commerce and The Young Advisors Forum as well as numerous other financial institutions across the country.
He has been profiled and his story published in industry related magazines as well as shared on numerous radio and television programmes.
Recently Andrew was honoured by the gesture of his story being included as set work for a national curriculum textbook for high school students.
He lives in southern suburbs of Cape Town and when Andrew is not working at Autus or training in his robotic walking suit, he enjoys giving motivational talks to schools, community organisations and companies.
